The Global Pseudo-Religion: How the Secular System Replaced God

Modern, secular man imagines himself awakened. He looks back with a certain hauteur on the centuries of religious ‘darkness,’ in which the masses let themselves be led by priests, holy books, dogmas, and the fear of divine judgment. Today, so we tell ourselves, we live in the age of Reason. We have buried God, dismantled theology, and built our society on the foundation of objective science and neutral, secular values.

But anyone who looks more sharply at the structures of our modern world order discovers a chilling and masterly illusion. The secular system has not destroyed religion at all; it has only hollowed her out and put on her skin. What we today call ‘secular rationality’ is in reality a merciless global pseudo-religion. A system that uses exactly the same psychological and theological mechanisms as the old world religions, but with one crucial difference: the worship is no longer directed toward the divine, but toward the technocratic nation-state and her global institutions.

The Western, secular powerholders realized early on that a purely materialistic worldview cannot bind the human soul. A human being needs an origin story, meaning, a morality, the threat of punishment, and the promise of redemption. Without these theological pillars, every system of power collapses like a house of cards. That is why the secular world did not adopt the deepest theological concepts of Christianity and Islam out of respect or moral evolution. She did so as camouflage. She stole the toolbox of God in order to subjugate humanity unnoticed.

Look at Hobbes's Leviathan of 1651. Look at what the secular state holds in its left hand. The crozier of the Church. They never hid it: they have stolen divine sovereignty.
Non est potestas Super Terram quae Comparetur ei.
‘There is no power on earth that can be compared with him.’ (Job 41:24, RSV-CE: “Upon earth there is not his like, a creature without fear.”)

With this Latin citation above the engraving on the cover of his book Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes drew the veil over the eyes of the faithful. He did not claim atheism; he claimed divinity. The Leviathan presents itself as an ‘Earthly God’ with the bishop’s crozier and the sword.

Let us dissect this secular theology and tear off the masks of the dogmas that dictate our reality today.

The New Creation Story: The Myth of Evolution

Every religion begins with Genesis, with a story of creation. Before one can establish how a human being may be governed, one must first define what a human being is. As long as man believed he was created in the image of God (or, as Khalifa, steward, set upon the earth), he possessed an inalienable dignity. A divine mandate means that the state can never claim absolute power over the individual; there is, after all, a higher Authority to whom the state is subordinate.

To remove this theological obstacle, the secular power had to invent a new story of origin: the theory of evolution. Within the global pseudo-religion, Darwinism functions not simply as a biological model, but as the ultimate secular dogma about human nature. By presenting evolution as undisputed truth, man was reduced to a cosmic accident, a biological machine driven by blind survival instinct.

This disenchantment of creation was a brilliant political move. If man is nothing more than an evolved primate in a cold, soulless cosmos, all his divine rights are forfeit. He becomes malleable material. He is no longer a spiritual being who answers to his Creator, but a biological organism that must be managed, regulated, and controlled by the ultimate survivor: the technocratic state. Evolution is the genesis of the secular religion; it teaches us that we are nothing, and that the state therefore is everything.

The Secular Hijacking of Sin and Judgment: Climate Crisis and Overpopulation

A meaningful human existence cannot do without the awareness of good and evil, of spiritual responsibility, and of an ultimate judgment. For centuries the Church pointed man to the deep theological reality of the Fall and of the Last Judgment. This was no instrument of oppression, as secular cynics today would have us believe, but a true and loving call to repentance. It reminded the faithful that his life had a purpose: to seek God’s will, in the awareness that he was accountable to his Creator. This truth kept man humble and gave life a sacred boundary.

But when the secular world declared God dead and pushed the Church to the margin, she ran into an immense political problem. A populace that no longer holds anything in holy awe and no longer believes in a divine judgment refuses to submit to the dictates of the state. The secular technocrats knew that they had to invent a secular alternative to the theological truth. And so they devised the ultimate modern imitation-sin: the myth of overpopulation and the climate crisis.

The secular world hijacked the pure Christian and Islamic concept of ‘stewardship’ — the loving commission to care for God’s creation — and perverted it into an apocalyptic, materialistic doom-scenario. In the new, secular religion of the Climate Disaster, man is no longer a child of God but an ecological parasite. Merely by breathing, consuming, and reproducing, man assaults ‘Mother Earth.’ Every baby born today carries directly the secular original sin of the carbon footprint.

This is pure theological plagiarism, but stripped of divine grace. Because the secular system labels us all as sinners in the church of climate, we must do penance. And how does modern man pay these indulgences? Through sky-high ecological taxes, the surrender of fundamental freedoms, and the acceptance of extreme restrictions. He who doubts this manufactured apocalypse is no critical citizen, but a ‘climate denier’ — the modern term for heretic. By preaching not the judgment of God but the imminent ecological doom of the world, the secular elite forces humanity to its knees. They have stolen the theological truth and refashioned it into a straightjacket.

The New Church of Charity and Redemption: The United Nations

If man is laden with the guilt of the climate crisis and the cruelty of his own nature, a redeemer is needed. The secular world could not leave the role of saving angel to religious institutions. A new kind of Vatican was needed, a secular sanctuary that would radiate absolute moral authority. This became the United Nations.

The architects of the post-war world order took the deeply Christian concept of “love of neighbor, brotherhood, and universal peace” and pulled it like a tailored suit around a bureaucratic and geopolitical apparatus of power. The UN preaches the gospel of Human Rights. Its blue helmets are the armed missionaries of the secular peace; its resolutions are papal encyclicals.

The genius of this construction lies in its immunity. By presenting the UN as the ultimate embodiment of universal goodness, the institution becomes invulnerable to fundamental critique. What right-thinking person, after all, can be against world peace, the alleviation of poverty, and children’s rights? But behind this facade of pious ideals lies a merciless mechanism for forcing nation-states, sovereignty, and traditional religions to adapt to a uniform secular agenda. The moment a true believer (whether Christian or Muslim) embraces the morality of the UN as the highest good, he has unconsciously knelt before a secular altar. The theology has been hijacked to make resistance emotionally and morally indigestible.

The Secular Heaven: Spaceflight and Satellites

If the secular system has claimed the earth, it must also demonstrate that it has conquered the heavens. Religious texts are full of references to heaven as the ultimate domain of God, a sphere of perfection unreachable by earthly power, from which the all-seeing eye watches over humanity.

The technocratic state cannot bear that there is a domain outside its sphere of power. So it invented a new heaven: the conquest of space through spaceflight and satellites. The symbolism here is far more important than the scientific value. The image of the rocket bursting through the cloud cover is the secular variant of the Tower of Babel, but this time presented as a success story.

By bombarding us with images of astronauts in an infinite black void, the secular power sends a theological message: Look, we have gone to the heavens, and we did not find God there. We are now ourselves the gods of the firmament.

Satellites function in this pseudo-religion as the artificial angels of the state. They symbolize the technological omnipresence and omniscience of the system. They give man the feeling that he is everywhere watched, measured, and tracked. The heavens are no longer the place of divine grace, but have been transformed into the strategic ceiling of the surveillance state. Whether these expeditions and metal boxes in space are an absolute reality or partly a hyperreal shadow-play to project power, their true function is theological. They prove to the masses that the technology of the ruling elite stands literally and figuratively ‘above’ them.

The New Hellfire: The Atom Bomb as Invisible Terror

Where there is a heaven, there must be a hell. To compel ultimate obedience, every religion needs a concept of absolute, annihilating punishment. When the secular West had successfully erased belief in the hereafter and in divine Hellfire, a vacuum of power opened. The state had to create a new, existential anxiety to keep the citizenry docile. They needed a Hell that existed in the here and now. They invented the Atom Bomb.

The atom bomb is not merely a military weapon; it is the ultimate secular theological symbol of wrath. It represents an eschatological threat (the total annihilation of all life) which no longer lies in the hands of God but is exclusively administered by a handful of power-elites in Washington, Moscow, and elsewhere. The existence of these weapons turns the leaders of nation-states into literal gods on earth: men who can, by pressing a button, carry out the Last Judgment.

But the genius of the atom bomb lies in its invisibility. It is a phantom threat. The masses have never seen an atom bomb; we believe in it through images on screens and through stories from government agencies. And precisely because this threat is unimaginably horrifying, it legitimizes every form of concentration of power, secret services, and military budgets. We must surrender our freedoms and blindly follow the decisions of the United Nations, otherwise we shall unleash nuclear hellfire. By continually pumping the fear of nuclear destruction into the culture, the secular system holds humanity in a state of permanent theological terror.

The Untouchable Martyr-Story: The Institutionalized Holocaust

Every system of belief rests, in the end, on a sacred, inviolable story of suffering. Christianity has the crucifixion; Islam honors its martyrs. A deep trauma functions in a religion as the moral zero point: the moment of absolute innocence crushed by absolute evil. He who questions this passion narrative dishonors the very essence of the faith.

When, after the Second World War, the West definitively shaped its secular world order, it needed a new, universal foundational story. This was found in the horrors of the Second World War. But the secular power did something masterful: it institutionalized the Holocaust and elevated it to the central, sacred dogma of modern times.

As critical thinkers such as Norman Finkelstein have shown in his analysis of the Holocaust Industry, the memory of this tragedy is preserved not primarily out of sheer respect for the dead, but as a geopolitical and ideological weapon. Within the global pseudo-religion this is the ultimate martyr-story. It serves as the absolute boundary of the permissible. By declaring a secular passion narrative absolutely sacred, the state creates the ultimate form of ideological immunity for itself.

The mechanism here is purely theological. Laws have been enacted that criminalize specific doubts or historical questioning of this dogma — literal secular blasphemy laws. He who deviates from the officially approved version of history is not met with academic debate, but with the modern version of excommunication. The doubter loses his job, his reputation, his access to society, and is made into a social pariah. He is placed outside the church of modern morality. This untouchable passion narrative gives the Western system the eternal moral high ground: every war they wage, every measure they take, is in the end legitimized with the specious argument that “we must prevent the ultimate evil from repeating itself.”

Awakening from the Matrix

Whoever assembles these puzzle-pieces stands on the edge of an intellectual and spiritual abyss. The picture that emerges compels us to revise radically everything we thought we knew about world politics.

For years the two largest world religions, Islam and Christianity, have been deceived by the secular West into thinking that they are each other’s arch-enemies. The Muslim world looks at the West and sees, falsely, a ‘Christian crusader,’ not realizing that Christianity was the very first victim of secular modernity. European and American Christians, in turn, look upon Islam as a threat, not realizing that their own culture has long since been hollowed out from within by an anti-religious, materialist system.

Christians and Muslims today stand in the same arena, blindfolded and pitted against each other by an enemy who sits in the stands and laughs. The secular system has disarmed the faithful. Not with bullets or swords, but by entangling them in a web of theological illusions. They stole stewardship and gave us climate-fear. They stole love of neighbor and gave us the suffocating UN. They stole heaven and gave us a satellite network. They stole hell and gave us the atom bomb. They stole God and gave us evolution.

The global institutions have appropriated the attributes of God to themselves: creation, omniscience, judgment, and annihilation. But because they are in essence not physically omnipotent, they must draw their power from the theatre of illusion. The pseudo-religion feeds itself solely on our fear and our obedience.

The way to liberation, both spiritual and intellectual, begins with the refusal any longer to believe in this secular theology. It begins with seeing through the language of the UN, the panic-mongering around the climate, and the terror of invisible nuclear threats, for what they really are: desperate manipulations by a system afraid of the only truth it will never be able to possess. We live in a hyperreal pseudo-religion. It is time we left the temple of secularism.
